2 things i was wondering.

1.  Is the "if it has claws and fangs it sucks" bug still around?  In my current version anything that had claws and fangs was useless.  7 war cheetahs could easily be beaten by a Kobold thief which as obviously a typo of some sort in the code.

2.  Are scourges still overpowered?  I remember that was a typo that set their value to 1 making them incredibly deadly?  Has this been fixed or will i have to go back into the raws and edit myself with the new version?  Also, what's the value SUPPOSED to be?

Thanks for the replies! I'm really excited to try out all the updates =)

It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

Whips indeed still have laser physics. Not sure about the other question.

Sounds like bug #744, which was fixed in 0.31.06.

Code: [Select]
[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_WHIP]
[NAME:whip:whips]
[SIZE:100]
[SKILL:WHIP]
[TWO_HANDED:27500]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:22500]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:1]
[ATTACK:BLUNT:20:10:lash:lashes:NO_SUB:5000]

[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_SCOURGE]
[NAME:scourge:scourges]
[SIZE:300]
[SKILL:WHIP]
[TWO_HANDED:27500]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:22500]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:2]
[ATTACK:EDGE:60:50:lash:lashes:NO_SUB:2000]

I find this to be fairly balanced.

Of course, this bug report is still open: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=23

There have been one or two little changes, but combat/bodies are still rather... odd. Creatures still aren't very properly differentiated, so cows probably still bite harder than alligators, and dwarves harder than dogs. It's been nearly a year since the last "reminder" there was sent to Toady, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I'd say war dogs definitely feel more powerful than they were during the versions that had that bug.  They're still cannon fodder but can do some damage.  In my most recent fort a war dog got a killing blow on a salt titan dimetrodon (it had 12 some odd dwarves and other dogs also pounding on it), got named, then subsequently died to goblin lashers.  Just don't expect them to last very long at all, they're best used as cannon fodder to soak blows your dwarves might've taken.  As for goblin lashers, in that same fight of (inexperienced) 10 copper armored melee + 10 marksdwarves + a few war dogs vs 16 goblin lashers, the dwarves lost four and killed 14.  So I don't think lashers are particularly hard to deal with, although I guess the main complaint is that their attacks allegedly ignore armor.

Marksdwarves are probably significantly more deadly and effective than you may remember them, in fact in most situations they are far better than melee.  They're just more fiddly to set up and operate smoothly, but its very doable now.

Whip's don't ignore armor, they just go straight through it like a bullet through paper.  :-\

Not sure if I know the bug you mean - marksdwarves however will definitely fire at targets they can't path to.  Not sure if that's true for breath attacks.

Wagons are still not showing up, merchants show up with just pack animals and guards.

ok then it's fixed.  In the old version, if marksdwarves and other ranged units couldnt walk over to the enemie and smack it, they wouldnt shoot it either making marksdwarves kinda useless and making sieges very easy to defend against.
