Just gonna put this out there:
IIRC there is graphics mode where it actually uses a terminal, for those Linux users that don't bother with a GUI.

There is. You can set it in the same place where you can set 2D, shader or any of the other graphics modes. It's one of the best arguments for not making default DF graphics-reliant.
