Smelter Reaction Not Working
« on: June 09, 2011, 09:59:16 pm »

I am pretty sure I did something wrong in this reaction, as I was trying to make an ore named after an awesome dwarf in my fortress, yet even when I generate a new world, the reaction doesn't show up in the smelter.

Did you remember to add [PERMITTED_REACTION:CORLEITE_MAKING] to your dwarf entity? Without it, dwarves don't know how to run that reaction.

"[REAGENT:A:1:METAL_ORE:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:CAROLEITE]" is invalid - what you want is "[REAGENT:A:1:METAL_ORE:CAROLEITE]". Next time, either look at existing reactions to see how they work (i.e. in this case, look at other reactions which use METAL_ORE) or check the wiki. Also, you really should be using "INORGANIC" as your base material type - "METAL" is just an alias provided for backwards compatibility.

Strictly speaking, you don't even need a custom reaction to make metal bars from ore - all you need to do is add [METAL_ORE:CAROLEITE:100] to the ore material and the smelter will automatically allow you to smelt it. The only time you need to use METAL_ORE in reactions is when you want to make alloys directly from ores.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
