i have been wanting to know how to get slaves i have atleast 20 elves and goblins in cages every year and i want to know if i can use them more than just throwing them off a cliff a few z levels shattering their legs to just be mauled by my 20 something black bears i keep down there. Any suggestions???

You can't enslave things.

The creation of life and the enslavement of existing life have been two long-term goals of modders.  When it becomes possible, you will immediately be aware of it, trust me.

There's no "legitimate" way of forcing other races to work for you. DFusion, and in particular the Friendship plugin, is, IIRC, an illegitimate way. To get slaves, you have to first remove their hostile and invader status, tame them, then use Friendship to let them do jobs.

Alternatively, use them as gladiators. Strip them of their weapons, then put them in a locked room with some of your soldiers. Release the prisoners and allow your soldiers to murder them as a form of live combat training; it's somewhat more effective than simple combat drills or demonstrations.

If you dig lots of adamantine, you'll get all the slaves you need.

If you make a run-on sentence long enough, they will lose their will and work for you.

But, no. No way, as it is. The closest thing you'll have to a slave force is migrants.

That's barbaric thinking. And the number one cause of unnecessary dwarf fortress cruelty. Every halfway civilized race allows their captives to live on as thralls. Even the goblins do it.

Well, there's the problem. Dwarves are only 1/3 civilized.

I'm not sure I'd use the word "civilized" and "Dwarves" in the same sentence... unless you append "un" before the former.

They are certianly technological though.

Much like dwarves aren't exactly intelligent but they are cunning.

Using runesmith, you can set the 'Tame' flag to true. They'll act like part of the fort.
