wells need a fixin'
« on: August 27, 2006, 10:02:00 am »

So... frogmen and lizardmen and balrog-knows what else sporadically leaps forh from the wells to ambush my dwarves, which is fine - it adds both excitement and brevity to the dwarven lives. However, that the ensuing mess cannot be cleaned up is distressing, because a well full of corpses is just no fun for the survivors. However, if I were to tear down a well to allow cleanup, I'd be left with a channel, on top of which I cannot build a well. It seems exceedingly harsh that these little buggers, glorified rodents at best, can render a well useless and disrupt the flow of Chi throught my entire fortress.

[edit: it seems that my dwarves will still drink from the well with corpses in it... which seems wrong, too]

I'd be happiest if the dwarves could, possibly with some effort, just clean the bloody well, but allowing the well to be rebuilt on a channel would be alright too. I imagine the later might cause problems with inventive/silly people building wells on their irigation channels, tho...

Items on top of buildings can't currently being accessed (except through the buggy pickup equipment command).  This is a somewhat annoying issue to work with -- creatures should probably be able to walk over wells, but they shouldn't prefer to do it.
