I tend to just pave my battlefield with something gray and then see what interesting designs I get from the blood and vomit and goblin pieces.

Smelt goblinite and make your battlefield a literal field of iron, copper and obsidian. It's very dwarven, and it will be even more when covered with blood ! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD !
