Broken Bottle-Roguelike
« on: June 03, 2011, 04:21:25 pm »

Taken from the link...

Quote
Broken Bottle is set in a post-apocalyptic world, following an alcoholic with a murky past as he tries to ascend to the surface. The game has a grim and dark theme, with story elements revealed through game progression, and through hallucinations or dreams induced by alcoholic abuse or withdrawal. Alcohol is a core element of the game - living without it is difficult, as it highly replenishes stamina which is used up in melee (fighting on very low stamina will make you miss most of the time). There are also withdrawal effects if you go without for a long time. On the other hand abusing alcohol too much can be bad for you, and can even send you into an immobile state

It's not very difficult for a roguelike, and the alcoholism and setting are not being played for cheap laughs. I started to see hallucinations and decided to stay mostly drunk on my first play through, so I could "win". Needless to say, I got what I wanted.

Yeah, I remember getting drunk in order to kill the pickpockets, something the character wouldn't do sober.

As a result, I was quite the alcoholic by the time I ascended. Been meaning to do a sober playthrough to see if I can get a different ending.

Grim and dark... dark and grim. Grimdark. Darkgrim... browngrey.

Am I the only one who now hates those two adjectives?

I managed to get to the top while only drinking a single shot.  The game said I was "Off the Wagon" when I finished.

I ran off the buzz in the first room, and kept running until I had played through all the hallucinations.  Then after discovering that you cant actually drink yourself to death, i shot myself in the head.  I'm pretty sure thats how you win, but there might be a surface too.

I didnt think of shooting the guard though.  have to try that.

I've been putting off trying this because ever since a few updates ago my computer literally cannot handle Tome4. 1.6Ghz, 1MB RAM, sort of okay integrated graphics. And yet be it windows or linux, when I get to actually start playing T4, my entire OS slows to a halt.

You can. He has good starting equipment (including the only armor (that I found) that doesn't cause encumbrance), though you're likely to find better before you're out of the caves. Curiously enough the protagonist refuses to knife him, even if drunk.
