Is there anyway to make steel or other metal bars available on embark......help would be appreciated

They already are. I just fired up the game to check.

Note that they're fairly expensive (steel is 150 points per bar). Also, your parent civ will need access to the materials or dummy reactions to have those materials available to you when embarking.

When preparing for the journey carefully, press TAB so you're on the item screen, then "n" to add a new item. You can start typing something to narrow the list down - "bar" should bring up all the bars, or "steel" to bring up everything steel. You can only see what you can afford to buy with your current points.

Oh...well..thats new...i had no idea that you could search for materials in embark...thank you
