Map Flooding Question.
« on: May 30, 2011, 01:49:40 pm »

Greetings all,
I've embarked on a very flat map (2 surface Z-Levels) and I'm planning on excavating most of it so I can have nice high walls without having to build them. My problem is that I want to flood the map from a river source that, once my earthworks are finished, will be much higher than my planned entrance.

SO, I need to know if a carved fortification (d-a) on a map edge will work like a river exit or will it instantly drain my map?

Carved fortification will work as a cavern opening.  Water will flow out of it easily, making it perfect for drainage.

If you wish to slow the drainage, you could remove the pressure by using a diagonal... or set up clever plates to drain/undrain whenever needed.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

I do indeed desire slow drainage so I will go with the diagonal walls + flood gates in and out. I'm also going to try crafting a dragon's mouth for the water source.

Thank you mysterious forum people.
