A goblin thief appeared. I set my marks-militia on her. Half a dozen misses, then a shot travelling almost a full screen strikes her upper body. Into her heart. She left a giant trail of smears of Ngom Spiderydark's blood but eventually stumbled, faint, off of my map. Later I saw the shooter was dabbling marksdwarf.

Well I've been playing for a while so I've had plenty of "Holy Crap" moments but there are a couple memorable ones:

One was the story of Reg Liruklor:

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=65866.0

tl;dr: his squad has something like 150 kills combined, except for Reg who had a whole 2 kills of his own.  Then one siege he runs out ahead of everyone into a squad of pike-goblins.  I figured he was doomed, but he went into a martial trance, smashed eight of them to bits with his warhammer and scattered the rest, who were easily mopped up by the rest of my military.  And those eight were just the killing blows before the rest of his squad could arrive.

Another recent one was Atir Stigildegel, the Legless Hero of Diamondrelic:

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=83136.0

tl;dr: Atir lost the use of both legs early on in the fort, but still dragged himself around, became a master marksdwarf and a legendary weaver to boot.  One day a Forgotten Beast shows up while Atir is downstairs collecting webs, and had crawled only about halfway up the ramp to the military "oh crap" defense burrow when the FB reaches him.  I figured that being legless and his only melee weapon being a crossbow, he was done for.  Instead, he wrestled and dodged the FB for several screens of combat reports while the rest of the military got into place.  The only reason he died was the FB got a lucky shot in on his skull before the rest of the military got there.  I built him a tomb fit for the hero he was.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

Wah? Was it a red panda?

Also, ledgekindred? Your TLDR has more words than the regular version. *bonk*

To start off, got aggravated trying to find a good embark, so decided to play Adventure mode. While traveling to a site, saw  coal and hematite veins in the side of a cliff. Wonders of wonders! Screen shot the travel map, for future use. Once off that hill, found some nice limestone boulders on the surface. Of course, the dwarf in me started drooling.
In the latest versions, finding a site like that in vanilla is of HS potential, but was not the topper. Retired the character, embarked on the site.
Once there started hunting a cavern. Hit a magma pool 9 levels down. It starting to drain was the HS moment.
Being a poor typer, I believe I set a record for entering commands, to drain off some magma into a resevoir. Lost a miner, but gained a fortune.

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.
Sincerely,
The Administration

Long time since I last played DF,but I decided "Hey,lets get back to this game, maybe I will get a good military going on at last."

Long story short,I dug down until I breached the first cavern. I saw two troglodytes some distance from the stairs,so I walled area around the stairway kvickly, and troglodytes ran away in meanwhile. So I dug even deeper, until I breached another cavern, smaller one. It was rough to wall it all up,so I only gave orders, and suddenly I see gorlak running to the stairs. I was shocked,as I haven't seen him in units screen, only a Giant Toad which I didn't care about. I wanted to draft some dorfs to military to dispatch it,but mason from the walls was on his way. It looked like this:

"Ehh,time to do 'ork that lazy bastard 'rderd me... WAIT WHA' THATS A GORLA'!!"
UPPER BODY BITE
"OW YA BLAADY BASTARD"
*punch*
*release grip of gorlak's tusk*
HEAD BITE
"I SAID GET AOUT!!!"
*punch punch*
Gorlak gives it to pain
"NOW DIE"
PUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHPUNCHGUTPUNCHPUNCHLUNGPUNCH
"Phew, thats enaf',time to drink som' booz'"

Gorlak was left alive, altrough he falled back to caverns like a drunk bastard he is - vomiting every third block, giving it to pain...

Well that was not really holy shit moment, just what happens in my fort right now. Time for real deal(LOLRHYME).

While he was dispatched,I went down to the place where I breached second cave. And I froze. Oh. My. FUCK. Giant Toad is jumpityjumping to my stairway. KVICK DRAW SOME MINERS TO THE MILITARY-SEND THEM DOWN THERE-DAMN THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE NICE IM GONNA BUILD A HOS- wait what?

The Recruit strikes the Giant Toad in the left rear foot with his copper pick fracturing the bone!
Artery opened,nerves severed,ligament torn,tendon torn.
The Recruit kicks the Giant Toad in the upper body with his right foot bruising the muscle!
The Recruit strikes the Giant Toad in the head with his pick tearing apart the muscle shattering the skull and tearing apart the brain!
The Giant Toad has been knocked unconscious!

I am going to name this fella Toady Slayer.

EDIT: Gorlak decided it would be a great idea to come up to be kickass'd once more. He didn't expect copper picks and iron hands tho. Fight was just above the second cavern.
I found his third toe left foot and right upper arm down there.
Of course, killed by Toady Slayer. I think he is going to be named Cavernfear the Smiting Pick. Dude that sounds more awesome than I thought! :D
