Vine whip seeds unplantable
« on: November 08, 2007, 06:37:00 pm »

Vine whips are unplantable in overground or underground farms. Is this a bug?

edit: Hm now they are plantable... after i cooked all the seeds? great.

Weren't people planting whip vines on a hill or something?  Anybody able to plant whip vines?  It looks like they should work outside at any season and in any non-freezing biome.

I've managed to get whip vines to work in temperate biomes (forest and shrubland), haven't tried anywhere else though.

My dwarves were able to plant them just fine in a temperate forest.

Yeah, i donnno what was going on. I had the seeds ( bought a stack of 20 in a bag from a caravan) , but it wasn't showing up on my farm menu. I figured they were unplantable or something, so i cooked them all. Later i discovered them on the menu somehow. oh well~

Whip vines show up in the list of plantable crops at my outdoors farms, but the farmers won't actually plant them. I cannot find any whip vine seeds in my kitchen list or stocks->seeds list.

I was pretty sure I had some, but now I'm wondering.

I had an active whip vine farm in a .33b fortress (in the lowlands).
Does the [DRY] tag mean they won't grow in wetlands if you bought the seeds from a caravan, or just that you can't find them growing wild?

Just because it shows up in the plant menu doesn't mean you have any or even that your farm is in the right biome for it.
I had to relocate my outdoor farm two screens to the right because it was in the "mountain" biome and not the "forest."

that's silly..

if a farm can tell whether it's outdoors or underground (and eliminate options) surely it should be able to tell what biome it is and eliminate options too?

Even if that's the case, it doesn't explain why it would show up in the plant menu when I appear to have no seeds for it.

The plant menu seems to show what you are allowed to plant. Not what you CAN plant. I've had quarry bushes set to plant and I run out of seeds, so my farmers cancel all the queued up plant jobs because there aren't any rock nuts. "Quarry Bushes" still stays on the plant menu, though. I think it's meant to show what you are allowed to plant in a certain season at a certain farm (indoors or outdoors) and not what you have the resources to plant.

IIRC, the outdoors farms show nothing plantable until you acquire seeds - you'd need to get whip vine seeds for whip vines to show up in the list of things to plant. Okay, if the farm still shows something after the seeds are gone, that's alright, but then there's still a problem.

I have no whip vine seeds or whip vines, and have never set the seeds or plants to be cookable. If whip vines show up on my farms' list of crops, then I must have at some point had seeds for them. So what happened to the seeds?
