Entire map inaccessible to wagons?
« on: November 08, 2007, 04:03:00 pm »

I had a situation where the entire map, every square of it, was inaccessible to wagons, for no reason that I could determine. I tried smoothing, building roads, everything.

Did you have a complete depot? I noticed that the (D)epot option popped up while one was under construction. Everything was inaccessible at that point. When it finished and I tried again, I saw the normal green.

The accessibility graph starts at the depot and then does pathfinding from there.  Any place a wagon can't get to from the depot is considered inaccessible.  So if a wagon starts at an "inaccessible" spot, by reverse logic it won't be able to get to your depot.

Did you try building bridges at the edge of the map?

I tried a lot of things. What I didn't think of was that the pathfinding algorithm starts at the depot - I told you I'm stupid with algorithms. What I didn't try but should have tried given those conditions would be to plane a section near the edge, build the depot there to see if it was accessible, and then walk it to where I wanted it.

Oh, well. That fortress sank into the ground anyway.  :)
