I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

Had me a dwarf nail crown once, which went on the head of whoever was mayor. If the hat fits...

The nobles of my second serious fort brought quite a few such items with them..
Rings, earrings, and amulets made out of fingernails, as well as a ring and crown made of hair.
They dropped it all on the floor, appropriately enough..

My modded race have made quite a few trinkets out of elf bone... which I then sell to the elves.

Urist McBroker: "So, how much will you pay for this then?"
Cacame O'Trader: "Hmm, depends on what it is exactly."
Urist McBroker: "It's a figurine of you predecessor, burning. We also have some nice meals made out of your predecessors guards."
Cacame O'Trader: "I'll give you everything I have."
