A handy artifact!
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:13:33 pm »

One starting build I enjoy is using zero points. All you start with to build is the three wood from the wagon. Needless to say - lots of bone and wood resources are created. My herbalist then got a true dwarvin mood and made this...

Stesokthibam "Moltenhush" a badger bone pick

This is a badger bone pick. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with badger bone and cedar. This object menaces with spikes of yak bone. On the item is an image of scepters in yak bone.

allowing me to...STRIKE THE EARTH!

clearly the dwarf has an inate want for being in the ground. Or the Gods were so disgusted by your dwarves living like elves and humans that they forced it upon you to treat them fairly.

depends if your religious or not :p

That is brilliant. Give this dwarf a royal bedroom once everything is up and running. In truly dwarven fashion, he said "fuck this, we're going underground. Here, have THIS." - presenting you a brilliant artifact pick and making a real fortress possible. Tales will be engraved of "Moltenhush", the legendary pick.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Number4 is correct: [...] it would be easier and more predictable to just be a racist.

Did somebody just rule 34 two veins of metal?

I'd suggest when fortress is operational and enough ore is mined to forge regular picks, this dwarf should become the leader of your military armoured in adamantine and wielding the very same pick he created.
The molten hush will descend upon the head of unlucky goblin, jamming the scull through the brain and tearing the brain!
Oh wait you haven't an anvil... time for a blacksmith to go muddy and make an artifact one out of some rubbish?

The anvil is not as urgent as the pick. The anvil can be bought off the caravan. So too can the pick but this utilitarian artifact buys a lot of digging time.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Doubly badass because it is made of badger bone.

Heck. It's not decorated with carp-bone.

Still, awesome ;D

Now to get that turtle shell anvil...
