Growing up on the farm it was generally accepted that if eggs got cold to the touch in the nest, the chicks inside would die, also FYI, a pack of quail will produce ALOT of quail poo, you probably dont want them in the house, I have friends who keep them in what looks like a giant rabbit hutch, they like tufts of grass and the like to hide/nest in.  If you dont live in town guineafowl are great things to have running about the block, they spend most of their time wandering about in a pack and sleep in trees.  Hatching and growing turkeys for meat was something we used to do as well

Just go full monty and breed chickens. Fresh eggs for cookin' or baking (I cant imagine quail eggs would be large enough), and local farmers will usually buy a young rooster from you so you don't have to deal with their BS. I've had chickens at home a few times; once they hatch, they hung out in half a refrigerator box lined with a few layers of shredded newspaper, and of course water and food. Throw a blanket on that and they all just kina pass out. They don't get loud until they get too big for the box anyway, and an acre of land can support a dozen hens easy. They tend to avoid roads on their own, and they'll come back to the coop on their own. You'll want a small coop, but that's not much of an effort to construct. Trashcan full of woodchips as bedding, and one of food, and you'll be all set for a season.
