I don't know if you've fixed this yet but this happens to me on occasion.

I don't know how it happens but DF, at least on my comp, seems to accumulate errors. What I found was that a restart of your comp will fix the issue.

Other issues I contend with which a restart fixes includes all of the dfhack stuff, therapist, and foreman. They somehow stop interfacing with DF soooo restart fixes it.

One of the dwarfs walked in front of Thor to get a better view of the prye, and Thor kicked him irritably into the middle of the flames, which made Thor feel slightly better and made all the dwarfs feel much worse.

Did you define a burrow that included your smelter, or a burrow that included your ore except for the iron / adamantine ore but not the smelter?

I have found that burrows and smelters do not play well with each other - sometimes the smelter cannot see supplies (fuel or ore) that is in a different burrow.

I think that this is because buildings think they are part of a burrow if they are inside of it, even if the burrow doesn't have anyone assigned to it, and it breaks smelters in particular.

i think this was it. it had been a few weeks since my last pc restart. and it wasnt only affecting that save i found but all my saves on that install. haven't retried it yet as i ended up installing another version of df31.25 and lazypack and started a new game in the most perfect embark location i've ever had, which is working fine.
