Marks dwarves won't fire
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:43:21 pm »

I have set them to have ammo they will use for combat (in military), they are getting quivers, the are putting bolts in there quivers that they are wearing they are failing to put bolts into the enemy. I have tried stationing them I have tried setting kill orders but they won't attack. They are behind fortifcations but I thought they could fire out of those.

They have to be of a certain skill before they fire through fortifications well.

Set them as civilian hunters for a few months, and they will automatically gain crossbow and marksman, then try again.

Alternatively, press enter to view the quiver, and then check the contents of the quiver.

They can fire through fortifications if they are directly adjacent. Order them to defend a 1-tile wide burrow behind the fortifications and they should step up and fire.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Yeah. But if they're a fair distance from the fortification, or if they're shooting up or down Z-levels, they need to be fairly skilled with ranged weapons.
