Water bomb
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:46:58 pm »

First time embarking on a saltwater frozen biome, tried to utilize ice. The chunks are drinkable, if stored in a underground cistern, when thawed, which is good. It makes fine wall building material, which is true. Seems one chunk of ice thawed equals 1 water. Sooooo, if you quickly dumped 50 chunks of ice, in a 1x1 pit, closed the hatch , when the ice thawed out, would you have a pressurized water bomb, that a building destroyer would set off when it destroyed the hatch?

You mean a "boulder" of ice?  Those always melt into puddles that are cleaned, for me...  Are you sure of this?

No.  Chunks of mined ice don't turn into flowing liquid when they melt.  They turn into globs of 'water', which are objects, and an infinite number of objects can fit into any space.

Also, highly pressurized water isn't very good at pushing things.  It works, of course, but the way that water teleports from the top of a body of water to the next open square, means that nothing along the way is pushed.  If the target of the waterbomb gets into 7/7 water, it means any further water will teleport beyond the target.

Ice can still be a great water weapon, utilizing magma under a floor to add heat.  You can snap freeze or unfreeze a single layer of water by running magma under the floor, so that a large sheet of ice suddenly becomes a drowning pit, or a shallow pool becomes a freeze trap.  There was one use to make a bridge, when magma is applied it becomes liquid and un-crossable.  When magma is drained, it freezes into a walkable path.  Apply pressure plates as needed to time the mayhem.
