[33f] Another Depot Bug
« on: December 21, 2007, 11:39:00 pm »

And not one on the bug list. I promise. Really.

So as the Elven caravan is packing their gear together, I think to myself, "What was I thinking when I first placed that Trade Depot there?" So I wait until I get the message that they've packed and are leaving, deconstruct the depot and build a new one elsewhere.

The bug is that when the depot was deconstructed, all of the items that was still flashing on it got left behind by the Elves. I just accidentally stole more cloth than I know what to do with.

I understand that deconstructing the depot is standard practice when you're looking for ill-gotten loot, though someone was saying it annoys the merchants just as much as seizing the goods.

Not sure that the stealing part is a bug...  you basically threw the elves out without giving them time to grab all their stuff when you deconstructed the depot.  Perhaps the game could give the player the option of whether to sieze the items or not, although I don't know how hard that would be to do...

But the real issue here sounds like it's the "I wait until I get the message that they've packed and are leaving" part.  Shouldn't you not get that message until they're actually, well, packed, making it safe for you to deconstruct the depot without stealing anything?

My point exactly. It certainly wasn't my intention to steal that valueless pack of cloth after cloth after cloth. And I did specifically wait until I got the message "The merchants are leaving", and *not* "The merchants are preparing to leave". If the other aspect of it is a legitimate "exploit" so be it, but there's no rationalising the other problem.

"The Merchants are Leaving" is just the notification that they've STARTED packing up their stuff.  Until the microsecond prior to that notification you can still trade with them.

And you don't see how that's confusing/misleading? I mean, they were moving away from the depot.

Well, it's not really an exploit.  The elves got as mad at you as they would have if you'd just seized the items using the appropriate menu option; doing it frequently will start a war.

*cough*

So... I'm the only one here who thinks it to be a bit of an exploit that 7 unarmed dwarves should be able to "seize" all the goods from a very well armed caravan which has guards with sharp and lethal weapons? No one else sees anythingwrong with that?
