So I was thinking about cool ways to improve the game, and I had the idea of library/study-type workshops. Using paper (would be a new industry), you can have your experienced dwarfs write books on how to perform a certain labor. Depending on stuff like the dwarf's experience in the labor and personality would influence the quality of the book, and subsequently, how fast other dwarves studying the books will learn from them. This workshop can also put to use the underused student and teacher labors.

Pros: fixes the issue of your best xxdwarf dying randomly and losing all the effort that went into leveling his skill

Cons: may require a new dwarf management system in order to only get certain dwarfs to study certain subjects, may require an entire new industry to be implemented

Thoughts?

There's many mods that are EXTREMELY similar to this. :)

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

How many times will someone make this post when it's not true in any given month?

First and second page of search say this hasn't been suggested.

Nope, not at all. :P

Which isn't to say I don't support the idea, btw. I was just making a point.

It would be cool if certain skills (say, the broker skills, or the unused writer/wordsmith/speaker/reader/poet ones) could be trainable to a certain degree with books. It would also help make the new "secrets" work (either tomes of magic magickness or Steelsmithing for Dummies), and would help make Battle School or Urist U-type education things (which I've been hoping for ever since finding out about this game).

I approve, if only to remove those Custom Learning Workshops that people think they need.

As said before, this topic comes up frequently, please search before posting. Read those topics, then post a new topic only if you have new ideas to add. If you have nothing new to add, don't post. This isn't to be mean, this is so that old ideas can be built upon instead of having the same debates and conversations that we have had on dozens of other topics.
