How to make money?
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:41:44 pm »

I can never seem to make enough money to do anything with. If I sell the copper dagger that I start with, I don't have enough money to buy a bag or backpack, and I almost always am given 2 types of coin, and I can only carry one type in 1 hand. Since I can only carry 2 different types of things, how am I supposed to carry my money that I have, AND go hunt for more stuff to make more money? I just can't figure it out. I tried leaving money a the shop so that I could pick it up later, but the money disappeared after I left that area to travel.

ANy tips on how to make some money to buy a backpack or bag?

Hunt animals, keep the copper knife and use it to butcher their corpses. You can sell the meat, prepared organs, etc.

Raiding bandit camps works too, sometimes you can sneak in and steal some items without them seeing you. If you get spotted with armfuls of loot you can always drop the stuff to keep your hands free for fighting (or better, throw the stuff at enemies).

My problem is that I can never sell the stuff for enough money to buy a bag, and if I leave the money there with the shop owner owing me money, the debt is gone as soon as I travel anywhere else.

Then the bandit camps are your best bet. There's usually a high value item there. They often have bags lying around too (not backpacks, just sacks).

Another thing is to do a quest in a lair. Night creature, dangerous animal, etc. Items in lairs never disappear so you can shuttle stuff back and forth and store it there once you've turfed out the original beastie living there.

Okay then I'll have to try that. I started with someone with high ambusher and dodger, as well as novice thrower, so I should be good at sneaking in, and getting away if I am caught.

EDIT: FFFFFFFUUUUUUUU!!!!

I tried out a lair, and got torched by a dragon T-T

LOL, well that's pretty bad luck to run into a dragon cave first time, they're rare. Keep trying, shouldn't be long before you can find one that's easier to shanghai.

Sounds like you are playing as an outsider. If you play as a part of a civilisation then you should start with a backpack.

I like starting from almost nothing, so yeah, I'm an outsider.

But, good news! I genned a new year with history longer than 5 years XD. More towns, so travel is easier, and It's easier to sel my stuff since most towns have shops.

heck, just build a outpost in that area, run it two years, produce basic adventurer equipment/supplies, then abandon it. Use it as a base of operations. With luck, perhaps you can find some coal/ ore veins for a more permanent fortress

You could always use the Lofn's mod to get crafting, and sew yourself your own backpack.

The thing is, even with no backpack you can carry multiple items of clothing by wearing them all. So the easiest thing to do would be to get some followers and get one of them killed somehow. Then take the dead follower's stuff and wear all of the clothing. Go somewhere, sell some of the clothing, and buy a backpack. You're all set then.

Make sure to:
A. Build your forgrs, etc, on a road. They'll be easier to find.
B. Leave theear in the workshops; they'll get scattered otherwise.

It's called "Wanderer's friend". Also it is included in my Genesis and Wasteland mods, and I think in some others.

Just look for a shop that has an undecorated, basic quality leather backpack.  You should have no problem buying that.

Also, if you find a critter and kill it, drag the corpse into the shop.  THEN butcher it, and you can sell all the parts instead of only what you can carry.
If you're not too far from town, and really don't want to lose your spear, just throw it in the direction of town, run over to it, then throw your dagger in the direction of town and pick up the spear.  Repeat until home.

If, for some reason all the backpacks are too expensive for one sale, just buy cheap leather clothes.
You can strip down to buy the backpack after you've built up your assets that way.
