adventure mode comments

so I've tried adventure mode a couple times and had some trouble.  First, the slowdown seems to be horrible and I don't know how to pinpoint why... but I think a million people are already reporting that.  Also, it seems that even dwarves who can swim can't get out of the water unless there's a slope, which there isn't along most rivers... so it seems like if you fall in the river, you're doomed?

also, an anecdote: my current adventurer, who's stuck swimming in the river, fell in trying to attack a carp that attacked him from the river.  The carp seem quite vicious when you're on land... but once I fell in the water, all the fish and hippoes in the river were terrified of me as I swam toward them... I could never catch them because they're all too fast for me, but I was amused that they were frightened of me.  I think the massive slowdown I'm experiencing right now might have the fish traffic jam as a contributing factor... I have like 100 fish fleeing from me at the same time...

The Z-axis hasn't really been optimized at all yet; that's part of why your game is lagging most likely.  Also, I have a theory on why you can't escape rivers if there's no slope upwards; the (x/7) notation refers to the water level in *feet*, and as far as DF is concerned humans can't reach over their heads (their size is 7, which I theorize to be feet as well), so when you're stuck in 7/7 water the reason you can't just pull yourself out by going to the right is because, abstractedly, you can't reach the edge to pull yourself up.  Abstractedly speaking, those up arrows can either be reachable edges or slopes.
