It's pretty easy to not use Therapist, actually, though it IS still difficult.

I fail at spreadsheets. I find it easier as well just using DF with different tilesets.

therapist was... ok. Too irritating to use though. I mean, it made things easier, and I hated that. I like having to hunt for the dwarf I want. It's more hardcore.
