So um... where exactly did all the beards go?

So I'm looking at the old pictures...


And I notice that all the dwarves have visible beards with their ASCII icons.
And I have yet to see a single bearded dwarf icon in my already 6 year old fort.

Did Toady replace the bearded dwarf icon with clean shaven ones or something, because I have never seen a single bearded dwarf icon in any of the 31.XX versions.

Default windowed tileset has the beardlesses. Default fullscreen tileset has bearded beardies.

You can also just use the other font in windowed.

Open the init.txt (DF\data\init\init.txt) and find the tileset lines.  Should be something like
Code: [Select]
[WINDOWEDX:0]
[WINDOWEDY:0]
[FONT:curses.png]
or something like that.  I'm running Phoebus, so I don't have the exact example on hand.  Open DF\data\art, pick the one you want, and replace the name.  In this case, you can copy the one in the FULLFONT part of the init, and paste it in the FONT part.

Its the curses_800x600.png font that's (usually) bundled with the game zip. The dwarves in the 640x300 font don't have them. It's in the data/art folder.

Just change the numbers in the [FONT:] sections (windowed and fullscreen) in the data/init/init.txt file to those ones if you want to use them.

...Now that I think about it, I don't think I've actually played DF with beardless dorfs.
