Damn Dirty Apes!
« on: May 16, 2011, 02:19:11 pm »

A human diplomat "law giver" recently visited my settlement. Of course I did what any self respecting dwarf would do, and slaughtered the filthy spy mercilessly.

I am aware that humans are a crafty lot, and their diplomats double as spies for traps, which I have a lot of, and which took quite some time to build. As a matter of prudence, I DID make a secondary route into my entryway, which is necessarily longer, and which contains all my traps. He did not pass that way, nor was he in line of sight at any time. Do I still need to rebuild all my traps, or just the strip of weapon traps that repel/detect the odd goblin ambush laid across my "main" gate?

Here I was hoping for a hate thread about bonobos and gorillas and crap like that...

Erm. Where did you get the idea from that human diplomats spy your traps?

Don't worry though: by slaughtering that monkey, you made sure that the humans will besiege you next year or so. Good job.

Human diplomats can see your traps, thus, somehow, alerting the other filthy humans of said traps. I think it needs to be in his/her line of sight, however.

Really? I didn't know that. Quite cool, and now these idiotic "diplomatic meetings" with them actually make sense. You know, the ones where they chase your expedition leader for half a year, only to say: "Nice place you have here! Good bye!"

On the other hand, it makes no sense... since the only way to make the humans besiege you is to have said diplomat killed. Doh.

Well, the whole reason I slaughtered him is because my traditional trade agreement with the humans is "I trade an adamantine statue for everything you have, then slaughter you on the way out, take my statue back, and mass dump the rest". I figure eventually they might attempt to rework our trade agreement, so a filthy ape spy appearing and telling their "trade negotiators" where all of my strategic assets are seems a very bad development.

Besides, I'm going to be undergoign a dwarven reeducation program, since they seem to think such filthy apes are actually intelligent and unfit as food. Such a nonsensical notion!

I have the same trade agreement with the elves, in point of fact. but if I recall, their representative is some sort of eco-terrorist tree hugging hippie rather than just a filthy demon worshiping ape. See how those elves feel about my "rude baubles" when they're dodging them into a magma pit.
