No fey moods when dwarves cut off?
« on: December 28, 2006, 03:45:00 pm »

I decided it might be fun to play on one of the isolated maps where there is no connection to the other civilisations. I have my awesome band of 9 dwarves (7 starting, metalsmith and her lesbian lover) and I've been playing for 4/5 years without a single fey mood.

Is there something i need to do to trigger them? I haven't hit the chasm yet, because i have no traps. (my underground forest is only just pumping out a decent amount of trees.) Or is it something to do with being cut off from the rest of dwarven civilisation?

Yeah, I noticed this when I played a map like that. Figured there probably needed to be a limit because potentially losing a single dwarf with a low population can be extremely crippling.

Well, if they would stop requesting materials that I don't have access too... gems, platinum, gold (ore/bars--depends on the fort, I had one where I found plat before any other ore), certain kinds of stone (or blocks) come to mind.  Had a dwarf who wanted "rough color" and his personality listed "star sapphires" as something he liked.  I've only ever found *one* in all the forts I've had.  Not sure that's what he actually wanted (as I had another dwarf wanting bars and liked tin, but didn't want tin bars), but he went nuts before I found out.

Yah, I've seen this before too.  Had a fey dwarf that wanted "a proper surface" and I had lot's of gray stone blocks already.  His only preference for stone was Onyx, so I queued up some dark stone blocks.  The first dark stone block to be made WAS an Onyx block, so I figured I was golden.  Nope, he wasn't interested in those.  So I ordered some green/clear/crystal glass blocks.  And just for the heck of it, some light stone blocks.  As soon as the first Marble block was completed, he was off like a shot...
