Where are the beeeeeees?
« on: April 27, 2011, 02:02:57 pm »

With the advent of the recent updates, I, like many DF players, wanted to build an army of battle-bees. When I found out this was impossible, I was crushed.
So, my new goal is the next best thing: A fort powered by bees and their by-products.

The problem with this is, er... I can't find any hives. I've tried several embarks on a few different worlds, but none of them have even a single wild hive when I arrive. Is there a special set of criteria for hives to spawn that I just don't know about?
Thanks.

sometimes there is no hives just flying bees. If you build hives and have beekeeper and you are in a right environment your beekeeper will catch some bee. catching 1 bee is enough to start beekeeping, I think.

You need to have a natural hive to transfer into your built ones. Bees  appear in any non-freezing area, but sometimes they might not be on the map right away.

The bees also need to be honey bees, but a map that supports bumblebees will also support honey bees.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
