Legends mode: Debug export
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:02:50 pm »

I've noticed that when one creates a world with "all history revealed", that is not actually the case that all of the information in Legends mode is actually revealed.  Underground Regions are hidden, certain historical entities are not shown, and many various things are not exported.  Underground civilizations are not even mentioned, for example, even tho they can be found.

It would be nice, for us modders and world tweakers out there, if there were an option to export ALL information.  Every last bit of it would be useful for debugging a world, or mod, or what have you.

Especially annoying is the lack of the exporting of the reasons for a war, even tho this is revealed in Legends mode, it is not in the XML. And when trying to make a race which gets killed off every time in worldgen, it would be extremely useful to know why such-and-such a race attacked them in the first place.

I like fortresses because they are still underground.

The XML dump is incomplete so there is info missing, but with underground regions I don't think anything is really going on down there right now. If you look in the XML a lot of events are already set up to for underground regions because they have the "feature_layer_id" property.

I'm always hoping to see new information in the XML dump and even put together a small list around when I first released Legends Viewer. I never updated it because I'm betting I'm guessing Toady knows whats its missing and has probably been low priority because there is but a few people that even look at the XML and Legends is probably the least used of the 3 modes.

I don't know, I used legends mode even before I started actually using your program, and it became easy enough to use it all the time, the instant that I genned a world.

Legends mode at least is useful in telling you who or what your king is, and how the tides of battle have gone for the different civs fairly quickly with those influence maps.

Sure.  And if there was some kind of debug mode for it, where absolutely EVERYTHING was visible both in-game and in the xml dump, it would be much better.  What is the missing stuff that isn't visible anywhere in the game or the export? I mean you get info on what's happening in the deepest depths of hell (not much really), but theres still hidden underground regions?
