"What a weirdly shaped hammer..."

My marksdwarves refuse to actually shoot their crossbows. They just run up to enemies and smack them with their crossbows. While it is funny to watch a squad of 5 slowly bludgeon a goblin to death for 100 pages of combat reports, I really need to fix this. Any Suggestions?

First, make sure you have enough quivers for each archer.  Otherwise they only hold one stack in their off hand, and not if they have a shield (I think).

Second, make sure you have plenty of bolts made.

Third, assign the bolts in the Military menu, "f" for the ammo section.

If that's not working, no idea.  But that's the basics of equipping bolts.
