I have mastered DF within 5 days

Not really, but my recent attempts at building a fortress have been really fruitful. I made so many mistakes that lead to many inefficiencies, which slowed fort development, but I am now building a fortress with < 20 dwarves and getting everything running up very quickly.

I feel like I have mastered the basics.

Here comes the magma train, flooding your fortress, and killing your dwarves.

For me, DF got boring after I had the basics down, so I had to do creative stuff for it to be fun again.
The way I see it, this moment is not a happy one.

But that was me, don't let me ruin it for you.

I need to actually kill stuff now. Every time I hit a cavern I basically shut it off so no issues occurred. Can a monster break through the walls I have built?

Micromanaging <20 dwarves is not too difficult. You've mastered Dwarf Outpost, now try mastering Dwarf -Fortress-. In short, you are missing out on a lot of the variety, fun, and !!Fun!! that comes with a mightier stronghold. Good luck in your and your bearded minions' future endeavors.

Here's a challenge for you; sort of the Next Level of DF:

Dig down until you hit magma and set up a magma foundry with magma-powered forges, smelters, kilns etc.

If you have sand: Start churning out raw green glass, and have your jewelers cut them into gems and then encrust goods or furniture with the stuff.
If you have clay: Start churning out clay crafts and / or bricks. Bonus points for going crazy with glazes.
If you have non-weaponizeable metals: Get forgin' some wicked furniture for your dwarves.

If you can do even one of these things, chances are you'll soon be hit with a ton of FUN.
