[Conflict]

Current Situation: When in the trade menu, there's an option to purchase entire bins of cloth, or only a few pieces from said bin.  If you select the entire bin, then a T is placed by 'Cloth Bin'. If you select any individual pieces of cloth, then separate T's are placed by them. This will automatically cancel the T by the main heading of 'Cloth Bin'.

Ex: Purchasing an entire bin. (You get all cloth in said bin)

Ex: Purchasing individual cloth. (You get only some of the cloth, pieces you want)

Problem: If you decide to purchase an entire cloth bin, then a T is placed by its name, but no T appears by the cloth that'll be traded with it.

Suggestion: If you decide to purchase an entire bin, then T's will automatically be placed by all the cloth that is included in the bin.

Ex: You purchase an entire bin of cloth.

Reasoning: Although not a game changing suggestion, it's subtle and nice addition. It's allows me to quickly flip through the pages and see all what I'm getting at a quick glance. Instead of having to pause to see if I did or did not trade for that cloth (although to figure out I've already selected to trade for it, but picked to buy them all by trading for the whole bin), it lets me know what I'm trading for exactly.

This could apply to anything else that uses bins where you can buy the whole bin with its items, or individuals items from the bin.

This would make spamming enter + down arrow useless as you'd end up trading empty bins instead of all the contents. Makes micromanaging bins harder for an already tedious system.

What we need is the embark new items style search filtering. Then If you want to trade whole bins and not be distracted by the contents, then you could type BIN and make your list much shorter. I suppose that adding a T to the end of all the items in a bin would be a good addition for micromanagement if the search was added.

Hopefully Toady will implement something like this when the economy nears completion and there are wagons again and oodles more items to get through.

I'm sorry, what's wrong with buying the entire bin, exactly?   Is it just the fact that it only displays a [T] next to the bin, and not the subsequent items inside the bin?  I don't find that confusing for me...

I don't have any problems with the way it is right now.

That isn't what was discussed at all. 

You can already just use a macro to keep punching down, enter, down, enter, etc. etc. until you have gone through everything as it currently stands.  This change may actually remove your ability to do that, as well, as Ethicalfive said.

Given that the bin displays the combined weight/cost of the bin and its contents, having the trading tag just at the bin-level is easier to count.  If you already can't easily observe the indenting implying contents, having the T next to all sub-items could just confuse further.

(Noting that you get the true total weight/value totals at the bottom, but when you're looking for things to shave off/pile on to get to a given profit margin situation, even deselecting the bin by un/re-selecting some/all of its contents works better in my mind than having to go through the alternative.  YMMV)

Maybe change the colour or write it like (T) for example, just for show, that way it won't break everyone's trade macros, but really, other than seeing whether items in a bin which crosses over a page are selected, how is this useful?

You can ban wood items in the stockpile near the depot, that helps with the elves, so you don't miss anything. The T's on both bin and contents might actually make it harder to know you're not selling the bins themselves to the elves (which would be bad), so use another symbol like I said.

When trading with elves, as the macro is scanning a page, I quickly check for wooden items (I don't make wooden trade goods, so all wood items will be white (imported) in the trade list. These get deselected manually, and then i do the macro again from the next page onwards. It's a lot quicker.
