How to get out of a hole?
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:21:14 pm »

I've just reinstalled DF and decided to try out adventure mode again.  I encountered a kobold wrestler, he attacked me and my Adventurer elected to swan dive into a murky pool.  I'm currently stuck inside of an empty? murky pool and I can't figure out how to get out.

I did manage to get the kobold in after me.  He dived in after I stabbed him in the lower body.

If you've killed all the hostiles in the area, you should be able to fast-travel out.
Taking a nap for an hour may let you sleep-walk out of the pond as well.

Fast-Traveling out worked like a charm once I stabbed the kobold to death.  Thanks a lot.

If the hole is filled with 7/7 water, and you are swimming, and you are strong enough (I think), you can pull yourself out the same way you can throw yourself in: Alt+Move.

I think you can only pull yourself out with Novice swimming skill or higher. If you don't have that, then just train it up. It'll boost your attributes too!

That's why I always give my characters swimming skill from the get go... even when I play a Peasant.

To not drown from falling into a pool by dodging you need adequate swimmer. Otherwise your adventurer will drown if he didn't get in the water purposefully.
