My beekeeper went insane?
« on: April 18, 2011, 01:39:47 pm »

So first off he started throwing a tantrum -- in his sleep.  Then he calmed down.  I checked his status screen and it said he was miserable because he had "suffered the travesty of art defacement."  He's a beekeeper; the entire fort has four hives and they are fine...  Then a short while later, he chucked another fit and destroyed his bed, although when I zoomed to his status when I got the message about the bed being destroyed, he wasn't even in his bedroom.  Then he calmed back down, went to have a drink, went berserk and fought with two war dogs until an Axelord got there and chopped him to bits.

In short, wtf?

Yup, it can be surprising when your architect builds a "masterwork workshop"

He didn't even make the hives.  He was just a beekeeper.  He set up the hives.  He caught some bees.  He pitched some fits.  He got chopped into dwarf casserole.

I'm not too worried, just confused. I assigned some other useless peon to be the new beekeeper.  Although I am vaguely worried about someone like, say, my legendary Axelord militia commander with the named, artifact steel battle axe experiencing something similar...

You haven't given us all information. What labour permissions and skills did that beekeeper have? You don't need to bea master artisan to make masterpieces, anyone can fluke one at random. It could be say, that beekeeper made exactly one batch of bone bolts sometime years ago which happened to be masterwork. Said masterwork bolts could then have been fired and lying on the ground for years before it was destroyed.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

He was a late immigrant to the fort, had a bunch of ~average conversational and social skills, Novice skill in something like woodcrafting that he had never used before, and was an Adept Beekeeper, if I recall.  In other words he was a typical useless peasant who was nothing more than an average beekeeper and a drain on my booze resources.

I checked all his stats and skills when he started throwing tantrums and, aside from the art defacement, he had been thrilled about legendary meals, decadent drinks, speaking with friends, admiring own room, etc.

Can a beekeeper catch masterwork bees... ?

Like I said, I'm more confused than anything.
