Goblins and no military..

Hi! I have some trouble.. First of all, I don't seem to be able to make a working military (need a tutorial on this), and now I have trapped a bunch of goblins.. What do I do with them, lol.. I have no water (well there is a river in the corner of the map, but all the ponds/pools have dried out).. Oops! The screen capture didn't catch the goblins in the cages.. Oh well..! All the wooden cages to the right on the animal stockpile circle has goblins trapped in them (22 goblins and one Elk bird)..

Build an arena and train your soldiers using gladatorial combat. To make it "fair", you can strip all the prisoners naked, take away their weapons, and leave some wooden training swords (aka: pointy sticks) lying on the floor for them to grab.

I don't even know how to strip the goblins..

Use the mass dump command d>b>d on the cages with gobbos in them, and then use the k menu to manually unmark the cages for dumping. Designate a garbage dump with the i menu. Your dwarves will remove all of the armor and clothing from the goblins and dump it there. You can then designate a deep pit or tall tower as a pit and assign the non-thief gobbos to be pitted, which should splat them if the fall is >10 z levels. The thieves will have to be killed with lever-activated drowning traps or by a military.

Lock them in a room with fortifications and open the cages. use them to train marksdwarves. Leave their armor on for more practice. Alternately, arenas are always fun. Also, you can use them in your GCS silk farm as bait.

Before this, use the d>b>c mass claim to claim the cages and everything in them. Goblins' belongings are frequently forbidden to your dwarves, which would make removing and dumping them a problem.
