Sieged by humans, no causation at all.
« on: April 15, 2011, 04:44:05 am »

Title says it all. I've had GREAT relations with the humans, they've made a lot of money off me. All of a sudden, they're besieging me.

The only thing I can think of is a very strange occurrence where the game notified me of a human diplomat showing up and zoomed to the area, but all that was there was an old bloody spot from when my hunter killed a water buffalo. You think the diplomat somehow died and I was blamed for it? I mean, under the civilization screen, it doesn't show import/export of terror/vengeance. Honestly though, I have no idea what's going on. This is my first time being besieged by anything non-goblin.

Maybe the humans realized that there was a way to obtain your high quality goods without having to pay for them.

Or perhaps there are multiple human civilizations, and they're not all as friendly as the one you trade with?

I'm not even sure if either is possible.

It had actually occurred to me that the second was possible. Honestly, that would be pretty cool. I like a complicated diplomacy.

Unfortunately, there's only one human civ in the list. Bummer.

Occasionally, the human liaison will die of old age when he enters the map, and human liaison deaths trigger sieges.

Can you find his body on the stocks screen under corpses somewhere?

But yeah, I think you get blamed for anyone who dies or isn't protected.  It's not really fair sometimes.  I think they'll send a diplomat to do peace talks if you smash enough of their sieges.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Yep, if the diplomat dies that almost guarantees a siege. Apparently it's your fault this idiot decided to show up the same time as a siege and calmly stroll past a Titan. Not a big deal though, bash in enough heads and they'll try to make peace with you. The options during the peace talks are hilarious btw

What's happened to me occasionally is the diplomat dies of old age upon arrival, which triggers a siege in most cases.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

You can start off at war with them.  You can back up your game files, abandon the fort in the back up, and check history.

My recent fort started off at war with elves.

Is it possible that OP's mountainhome pissed off the humans and started a war?

Yup.

That can happen too, but it's rarer. Or maybe you traded with the elves? Humans will attack you if you trade with the enemy (if they're at war)

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

If I choose to keep warring with them during peace talks, will I get another chance to for peace later?

I'd like to sweat the humans a bit for trying to screw with me.

Not enough magma.
Magma the non-Magma diplomat, then Magma the non-Magma soldiers. The Magma will cleanse their souls MAGMA.
