As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

1st of Granite, 4 by Mestthos the Expedition Leader
Our wagon has been parked. Or, should I say, crashed. The buffalo got spooked by some fox or other and, well, broke the wagon. In spite of this I believe we shall settle here, make another town along the dirt path. With this, I have named the town Paddleclasps. A fine name no doubt, once you get your tongue around it.

Sometime in the Summer, 4 by Mestthos the Expedition Leader
Travelers on the road!

Mestthos: "Hello there and welcome to the fine town of Paddleclasps! May I ask your name?"
Traveller: "My name is Kivish, and this is my slave farmer, Zefon. And you call this a town!? It's a single roofless house!"
Mestthos: "But it will be town! Wait and see!"
Kivish: "And it's the last town on the road, too. Might as well stay."

And thus we got our first 2 migrants.
17th of Galena, 4 by Mestthos the Expedition Leader
We put a roof on our house! Now we can sleep in it. All we need is someone to dig out the cellar. I also ordered Kivish to build some glass and wood furnaces. But no one will do it! Kivish claims a maon needs to finish the wood furnace, but I think he’s just slacking off.

Love it. Keep at it! Funny thing is though, I always name my dwarves in Roman ways. The first seven of my dwarves are given both a first and last name (Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, Marcus Brutus, etc). And, I like your approach on things. I may adapt something like this.

This is an interesting approach.

- Will you mainly be constructing above ground, with only the first few underground level used for storage?
- One slave per family member. Do you assign slaves to bedrooms in their respective family house? Where will the extra slaves live?
- Are family slaves part of the army?
- Are all unassigned slaves (those left after each family member gets one) going to be in the military is passive mode?
- Will you build a wall around your city? A palace? A public bath?

1. Yes, as I only have 1 underground z-level to compensate for the 8x8 area I embarked in.
2. ??? I will assign slaves beds so they won't sleep in their masters bed. Extra slaves will live in a hotel. Or something.
3. If you want them to be.
4. Unassigned slaves will be both in the military, and doing extra jobs like claymaking and woodworking.
5. No wall. Makes it more interesting in sieges when the battle is going on in the alleyways and streets. Citizens will be burrowed into their cellars.

Anyone want to claim the first house?

Yup. And if I can figure it out, they'll take it from a "store" (building with large food stockpile).

If you figure it out, please share. I think I'll want to replicate this.

Yup. And if I can figure it out, they'll take it from a "store" (building with large food stockpile).

Here's one way to make this work.
- Have a small food stockpile and a seperate drink stockpile in each house, where you like them to be.
- Have one or more big food/drink stockpiles in your store or warehouse.
- To force food and drinks to be stored in each house, disable the stockpiles in the store. This will make the slaves haul it into houses until each house stockpile is full.
- Re-enable the stockpilts in the store, so that existing food does not rot.

Optional for convenience
- Enable seasonal autosave as a notification that its time to force refill the house stockpiles

Another alternative
- Have a small food stockpile and a seperate drink stockpile in each house, where you like them to be.
- For each house stockpile, have a seperate stockpile in the store, with the same setting. Set the house stockpile to take from the warehouse stockpile.

I don't understand the rules.

Can we claim a dwarf roman or slave and tell you what he will be doing, or do we each get a turn?
