Author Topic: Search has failed me ... seemingly indestructible dwarves still getting bisected  (Read 928 times)

Being new to the format of the raws, I was looking for a quick way to get into dwarf fortress for a little bit of practice with the military screen without having to reload or regen every 5 minutes. 

So I made dwarves made out of awesome. (Not cotton candy... the floor of the circus)

Well, they seem to kill clowns handily with their bare teeth.  But now and again they will still get a missing upper body.  From salty clowns.  I figured "well, maybe if the clowns were firebreathers... but these guys were just salty".

So... need a suggestion from anyone else that is a horrible cheater.

I'm thinking maybe get rid of the joints... but I'm not so sure about that.

Any dead dwarf will show up as missing their upper half.

Even if they died from starvation.

Then where do I find out the real source of their death then?  I swear I've spent 30 minutes going through every menu I could find in game to see what caused a death.

Maybe they got hit in the brain somehow. :O

edit:

I'll go read one of the tutorials again and see if I can find what the hidden menu options are.  I think it might be because I'm using TTF's and I can't easily access the announcements list.

Announcements vanish after a while. You'll have to go into the gamelog and look for the dwarf's name, starting from the bottom and searching up.

In future, you can go into the Announcements file and set dwarven deaths to something more obvious. I use the 'pause, recentre, giant box' announcement used for artifact creation.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Well, taking all that into consideration, any recommendations based on the raws as to what I can change to reduce the change they'll get killed even further?

No joints?  No brain is probably one to have, but I think I'd have to have something like "no thought movement center" or whatever it is that bronze colossus have.  I could probably get rid of the lungs as well, since I think I could get random deaths from breathing.

edit: nm didn't have lungs.

I think I can still get rid of bones and the brain though.  Will dwarves still perform tasks if they have nothought?

I'll go test now

I think you could just add [NOTHOUGHT] to the creature raws.

Tried doing that, when I go into thoughts and preferences the game crashes.

Not sure why really.  I had gotten rid of everything I thought was problematic.
