Question about the invaders d_init setting.
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:13:16 am »

Will turning off invaders in D_init turn off megabeasts and such too?

Edit: Megabeasts attacking my fort that is.

It should stop goblins and megabeasts, yes.  And any other hostile civs.  It won't stop invasions of buzzards or rhesus macaques, or other wild animals.

Also, obviously, magma avalanches and tsunamis weren't exactly a contingency covered in the mission briefing.
I can assure you that Ardentdikes is not the first fortress to be flooded with magma. What's unusual is that we actually meant to flood it with magma.

It doesn't seem to stop sieges. :-\  I change that setting after getting too many sieges in a row and wanted a breather.  Restarted the game with the new setting, then a few weeks later, BAM! Super-siege!

It won't stop ambushes apparently, I had *ahem* fix that otherwise.

Turning it back on once my big fortress is finished and my dwarves are moved in but I figured since it'll take me years to finish it it wouldn't be ready to handle the every-other-season sieges I eventually get.

It won't get rid of ambushes that are already wandering around outside, though it should prevent new ones from showing up.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Does this include sieges which are off the map at the moment but already on their way?

It does stop those.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Turning invaders off takes effect the next time your game changes seasons, so if you were already going to have a siege that season, you'll have to deal with it the old fashioned way.
(or wait for them to leave on their own!)
