Question about severed limbs and clothes.

If theres a clothing item that covers the body, and the upper arm and lower arm, what if the wearer gets a severed limb? If another dood wears the shirt, will it magically regenerate the sleeve?

The sleeve never gets severed with the limb. Armour either blocks the attacks or dodges the attack itself, not being hurt at all.

Clothing and armor are basically the same from the game's perspective. Clothing can become xDamagedx/XDamagedX/XXDamagedXX over time, which effectively decreases their quality and causes unhappy thoughts, but damage isn't restricted to specific areas. The only things that are considered to have discrete parts that the game keeps track of are living creatures.

Do shirts in DF actually cover the arms, or just the upper body?

I know mail shirts do (and also the upper legs).
Breastplate doesn't but i have no idea about normal shirts (or they called shirts?)
