I have two questions about fear. (Nothing philosophical.)
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:21:15 pm »

I have two questions about how Dwarves react when they are fearing for their pathetic lives.

One- Will Dwarves run from wild animals who are on chains?

Two- If a Dwarf is running from an animal, will he/she jump into a pit to get away?

I am pretty sure they do, and I think they only dodge off a pit if they are actually attacked. If the animal can't hit them they probably won't. Don't quote me on that though.

1. I'm fairly certain the answer is yes, but good luck getting the animal chained up in the first place.

2. See above poster.

Dwarves are fairly stupid creatures, so yeah they will run from a turkey on a chain but they wont dodge into your magma pit unless their attacked.

Only if there's a ramp/stairs down. The only time dwarves opt for flight is if they dodge into open space.

Actually, the reason is that I wanted them to dodge into a 1 z-level pit with cages at the bottom. Y'know, because a one z-level fall stuns things. And stunned Dwarves get caged. And about them only jumping in if directly attacked, I'll just have to arrange to get the cages a bit closer to the pit than expected.

Speaking of which, will chained animals attack at all?

Yes, chained animals will attack, provided they are close enough to the targeted hostile.

Yes.

Oh really? That's the opposite of what everyone else has said. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but I think it's time to...
