Further pursuing the 'iron armor' stangeness, I have found that with squads of 10 grandmaster-all-skills dwarfs (both sides using addy battle axes), the squads with full steel LOST to the squads in full iron in 5/8 matches. This might be because of shield bashing, but is still bizarre. Next for a test of addy axe+steel sheild+steel other armor vs axe+steel sheild+iron other armor
That is odd.
We need more !!Science!! done.

In my 2 days of being on the forum I've read the term !!Science!! over 30 times  :P

The squads (8 instances of each fighting separately)
10 grandmaster(all skills) dwaefs with addy axes and steel shields on each team
One team has full iron (apart from shield which is steel), the other has full steel (including shield)

The results:
A win for the steel group (6/8 wins). This means that steel is better for armor that is not shields. Next up: Iron shields v.s. silver shields

You guys DO know that in small squads, a lucky hit can screw stuff up and give weird results?

I find 10 to be a decent squad size for testing when you have 8 pairs of squads (making 160 total dwarfs). If anyone else wants to test more they are welcome to.

May I suggest a series of versus tests with swords and/or spears? I'd do them myself if I had a working computer that could run DF.
