No metals
« on: April 02, 2011, 01:27:36 pm »

In the game I'm currently playing(second one) there doesn't seem to be any metals in my embark.  I've explored pretty thoroughly and dug down to the magma sea, but all I've found is adamantine.  Is this normal?

Chances are, you have access to an infinite supply of goblinite.

It isn't unknown. If it doesn't say metals on the embark screen, it means there are no metals.

Goblinite seems to be in short supply so far as well.   Guess I'll use my enormous food reserves to buy toy drums and whatnot to melt down.

Imported anvils are your friend.

The unscientific method I used to get Goblinite... during the world gen, I carefully watch the screen as it places civilizations.  If I don't see "goblin fortress", then I abandon that world gen and create a new one.

So far, I seem to be getting a lot more goblin ambushes in this embark.

The mineral distribution thing got changed a few versions ago. Now not only are metals much rarer, but completely absent from certain areas. If you area has metal, it'll say shallow/deep metal/metals on your embark screen.

If you want more metal, generate a new world using advanced parameters. One option controls metal scarcity. Reduce that number and you'll get more metal.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I actually try to get sites with no metals, because I like crippling myself for fun.
