Cannibal elves?

Hi, every now and then I see on this forum references to elves eating corpses... is it some kind of long-standing joke, appropriate racism (only appropriate because they're bloody elves of course!) or actual in-game behaviour?

Butchering implies that you actually bother to prepare the corpse. I don't think they do.

As far as I know the elves east anyone they kill in worldgen (including each other) but this doesnt happen in game.
