How are animals fed?
« on: April 02, 2011, 10:01:02 am »

How do animals eat?  I seem to have a lot starving in the first few months of my new Fortress - usually pack animals.  Do they have to graze outside?

What about cats and dogs?  Specifically, if I chain my war dogs up at the entrance, how do they eat?

OK, that answers my question about grazing - but what about feeding dogs and non-grazing animals?

Creatures which aren't intelligent and aren't grazers don't need to eat.  Your cats and dogs will be fine chained up.

They bits of meat and grab birds that have nested in your dwarves beards as they walk past.
