dwarves hitting animals?
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:34:15 pm »

is it just me or are my dwarves attacking my animals? like i have some goose that never stepped outside of the fortress and i periodically get enraged dwarf and animal messages, and many of my animals have sustained injuries.

edit
actually i just checked my combat reports and it seems like they my goose are attacking everyone including other goose, is there a way to stop them from doing this?

are you keeping them penned up in tight quarters?
Animals get pissed off and maywill attack if they don't have enough room

Is Urist McDwarf unhappy and throwing a tantrum?
They may attack random dwarfs and animals if they throw a tantrum.

Yep, and it's basically the same as setting up a meeting area, except instead of pressing m for meeting area, you press n for pen, and then N to bring up a list of animals to assign to it.

Several small pens with a few animals in each one work better than one huge one, in my experience. The animals seem to all want to stand in the same few spots in a large pen, and still wind up fighting even if there's plenty of room. If you *do* want a single large pasture area, though, you can make several pen zones with one wall around all of them, and each animal will stay in its own zone.

Dying (ceasing to be alive) is also not a Moodable skill. Even totally unskilled Dwarves seem to do it correctly.
