(38b) Only two civs in 17x17 world, both elves
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:59:00 am »

Created in DF v0.27.176.38b.

[WORLD_GEN]
   [TITLE:POCKET]
   [SEED:1802448968]
   [DIM:17:17]

What's interesting is that there was a dwarven faction in the region history.

The Unbridled Labor, Dwarves
Worship List
 Id Rocksoil, deity: minerals
Stettad the Inks of Coal, deity: jewels, wealth
 Ral Bouldersilver, deity: metals
 Tomus, deity: fortresses, war, valor
Salul the Duties of Vigor, deity: mountains, volcanos, fire, the sun, light, rainbows, fertility, agriculture
 Idash Paddledfishes, deity: oceans
 Al†th, deity: chaos, trickery
¢both, deity: music, song, the seasons
Ruler List

  • Ilral Dreamedtowns (b.??? d. 79, Reign Began: 1), *** Original Line, Married (d. 80)
         6 Children -- Ages at death: 78 76 75 74 73 72
         Worshipped Tomus (26%)

  • Melbil Walledponder (b.7 d. 177, Reign Began: 79), Inherited from father, Married (d. 164)
         No Children
         Worshipped Tomus (32%)

On closer examination it appears that the civ was whiped out after the second monarch died with no heirs.

There are a bunch of Mountain Halls but they're all in red.  The faction is still selectable as the only to civ be from on the embark screen though.

  • Sounds like the dwarves didn't have enough kids to continue on.

It happens in the pocket universes. There's very little space for civs to move out, and possibly the spawn settings themselves are scaled according to the world size. In one of mine, only one civ each of the elves and the goblins survived.

Btw, I have to say. I LOVE pocket worlds. Very quick to generate, and very very fun to play. You can quickly get into action, and conquer the entire world, and see how it all affects the environment later.

    Hi!

Actually, I do not really see how this is a bug. The dwarven empire simply died out and your band of seven are sole survivors struggling to recreate its past glory.

The interesting question would be how the world behaves in game (do you get dwarven caravans and immigrants?).

Personally, I would consider this a feature as it means an even greater diversity (just as breaking from the "every site has a river, cave river, chasm, magma, you-know-who" doctrine when moving to 3d). It does even more pathos to the game in my opinion.

Clearly, you need to repeatly create adventurers until every elf is dead.

What would amuse me is if you still got human and dwarven caravans. Traders from Mapedge the black boarders of restriction!

    Hi!

Well, even if the civilization as such has been removed from the map, there could be nomads surviving as traders. Perfect genocide is quite difficult to perform.

Well Either I don't get the caravans or I do but it crashes, most likely.  I guess I'll have to try it and find out.

This could be even funnier if you get a king while there's no more dwarves present =).

Really?  I though it was just that there were no other mountain ranges so they built on the only one.

That's one gob civ and one annihilated dwarf civ.  I can make some more worlds though if you like.

Now, a red city name means it's abandoned right?  Because I remade the world and this time it generated one dwarven civ one goblin civ and two elf civs with a city for each but the dwarf city still had a red name.

Well here's the entry for the dwarf civ.

This just in!  I was able to start a dwarven adventurer from the dwarf civ in this version of the world though I hadn't been in the other one.  I went into the mountain hall and found allot of empty room, and so far, one peasant who mentioed the king and some other folks as well as a few members of his/her family.

Oddly, several of the walls of the mountain hall are made of sand.

Actually, a red name just means that you can't settle in other mountain walls. All mountain walls are red.
