100+ Z-Level Hole to the Carnival
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:51:35 pm »

So I generated a nice world with plenty of volcanoes, and found one with a volcano and a river next to each other. Score, right? WRONG!

There was a giant, lag-inducing hole in my map. That hole, however, didn't stop there. It went down...

And down...

And down, until I hit a Carnival Tent.

From what I can tell, from the shape, it was *supposed* to be a Volcano, but it didn't generate properly. While it's not surprising something in DF went horribly wrong, what's surprising to me is the depth of the hole, and the fact that there's another volcano about 200 tiles from that pipe.

Funny story:

I should mention that the Clowns only came around after I did some mining, but here's the save, pop it into your save folder and play for yourself:

Wow, a hole straight into hell.  This is quite a lucky embark, indeed.

And not one but TWO waterfalls?

This is a 1 in a million chance of a river being generated on a volcano being generated on a spire that just so happens to have a circus inside.  Truly awe-inspiring.

Request for reusable magma/obsidian drop trap to be built over said hole.

It's a most royal, magnificent toilet ever! Just build a nice top cover for it, and you can express your attitude towards the forces of Hell properly!

It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

I second the notion that someone should build a toilet over the hole. Additionally the toilet should be flushed using magma, not water.

But demons eat magma for breakfast!

I hope there's plenty of kaolinite in that embark - a proper toilet absolutely must be made out of porcelain.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I've got a save just like this, though my hollow tube ends at Cavern 3 and doesn't breach the magma sea so the clowns triggered but couldn't leave. (except for a random snow clown that somehow appeared out of a murky pool after 3 years).  I wouldn't have played the embark at all, except I could see shiny blue glinting at the bottom of the hole and felt no self respecting dwarf would abandon a site with blue visible to the sky.

Generated under .22 but played through .23, .24, and will update to .25 once I get the DT vectors updated.
