Struggles in the Void.
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:25:11 am »

Hello!

This is going to be like cganya's current master piece, short stories that create a longer story. Mine will be a sci-fantasy (hand waving for the win) with fantasy elements in it.

WARNING!
This will contain a lot of blood and guts as well as issues that some will find disturbing, not for the faint of heart.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Anyway, this first little bit is just a prologue to set the scene a little.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Triton, an aquatic world on one of the many cities once populated by man in its golden age, now just another husk of its former self. Some of the elder brains remember when the seas where a blue-green, the sky a perfect light blue and the land a swath of many natural brows and greens. But not even the great cold void could stop the tendrils of man as they sought to plunder the universe, stripping bare the once pristine planets of their resources and beauty to feed the machine that hungered.

Industry.

The bastard child of man, its shining creation that took it from apes to sentient beings and its cancer, makes them hungry for more, always more and never enough.

Through the supposed ‘Golden Age’, the shackles around mankind’s ankles where removed when they discovered the technique of folding space, a crude term for the technological marvel of defying physics which made the years of travel to star systems in mere days and weeks with communications happening almost instantly over parsecs.
At this discovery, people preached that an age of peace would occur, that man would finally come from its cradle in the sol system unified to explore, colonize and further their stature in the cosmos. But the men up top had other ideas, to line their pockets and create a bloody industry that ran on the blood of those not in the loop. They were the ones with the pay checks, the masses blindly followed.

And so begun a crusade across the stars, man expanded on ships that sailed the solar winds to new homes, where they set the machines and plundered the earth they set upon ripping into the ground to find riches in metal, minerals and gems. The factories and cities poisoned the earth; it poisoned the water and poisoned the air. Waste was buried in the mine shafts that had served their purpose, pollutants where dumped in the waters that where void of life and the smog bleached the sky and covered the atmosphere blanketing planets in a perpetual night.

Conditions where poor, populaces told of becoming rich and living in spacious homes with everything they wanted where crammed tightly into hive cities with towers reaching up into the sky, worked day and night with little pay. Violence was met with violence, armed police put down each revolt with extreme force and the populace was watched with a careful eye and an iron fist choked the hope of freedom out of them.

To focus our attention back to Triton is where the tale begins. This tale is one of a man who dreamt and hoped, even as the corporations attempted to stamp it out of him.

The birth of the Metal Militia.

Ok, next update. As I said these will not be regular by any means. Sorry for any mistakes, point 'em out and I'll get to fixing them.

--------------------------------------------------

A cloaked figure ran down a street, boots ringing out a chorus of taps on the Therma-creat as he made best speed. Several figures followed and assortment of human scum and cyborgs who kept on the figures tail as the pursuit continued. Taking a right down an ally the prey panted heavily as he continued running and smacked into a large man standing in front of the other side of the ally, his giant bulk of muscle blocking only other exit. The runners catch up with the cloaked figure who  lays sprawled out on the floor.

“Nowhere to run now Vine.” A male cyborg steps forward from the group behind, his right arm and half of his chest replaced with cybernetics, his remaining skin covered in gang tattoos.

“What took you guys?” The voice from the prone figure is male and metallic sounding as he pushes himself to his feet and stands before the ganger, his hands move to his pockets. Spotting this the cyborg takes out a large calibre pistol and points it at the cloaked man.

“Now none of that please.” The other gangers pull out a various assortment of armaments and point it at the man. Vine puts his hands up, his sleeves falling down showing his left arm to be cybernetic. “The hood as well, let’s get a good look at this legendary gang runner.” Vine pulls his hood back, his face is scared with lines running across his face, some from knifes and others surgery scares from the cybernetic implants. Metal plates creep up his neck, his mouth replaced with a grill for a rebreather implant his nose non-existent and the cavity covered with a metal plate. Further up the left side of the face is replaced by more metal, the eye with a swivelling optical implant, a crystal like surface with a faint red infa-red laser underneath. The top of his head is still human with long, thin, greasy black hair swept back and tied into a tail, ending just at the nap of his neck.

“Of course, a normal human wouldn’t be capable of the rumours that the ‘legendary Vine’ could pull off. Don’t think it’s going to help you though, bullets still a bullet.” The gang leader smirked and levelled the pistol at Vines head. “I’ll be taking that package you’re carrying off of your corpse.

Vine remained staring coldly at the cyborg before him, he was about to die, this he knew. None of his trickery or skills could get him out of a situation where he had twenty or so cowboys with itchy trigger fingers but he was not going to cower away from it like a lesser man.

He watched the cyborgs finger tighten around the trigger, the hammer slam into the bullet with a dull thud, the slider pull back ejecting the spent casing, the bullet spiral out of the muzzle. Vine’s mind was blank a sort of mind numbing calm covering his mind.

Vine stood there. He still stood there and remained standing. The gangers looked in puzzlement, that shot had been point blank and dead on to punch a hole in his head. Vine was stunned, a shimmering white figure stood before him, translucent and shining brighter in areas where light was glistening on to its form from the other side. The thing turned round, it resembled an outline of a female human with long hair down to the small of its back. Holding a closed fist in front of her, it opened and dropped a bullet onto the floor.

so this is where your story is! I was wondering :P I like it so far, you have a talent for describing things!

Your story so far makes me think of shadowrun which is pretty cool; technology, greed, grit and magic!

Now that I have posted here I can keep an eye out for your updates ^.^
