Can't find buildings
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:37:43 am »

Hi! I am having trouble finding buildings and shops in towns. I'm using May Green's tileset and I don't understand how to locate them. Also, is there an easy way to find shops? I want to sell my ogre underwear.

Well, look around rivers. Human towns are almost always centered about rivers. Though if your playing adventure mode I'm fairly certain you should have started in a hamlet of some kind. If there are no shops in your starting village, its a good idea to locate another settlement on your map to travel to. (Opening the map requires pressing either the "m" or "q" key, I believe. I haven't played adv mode in a while.) Finding shops is mostly trial and error, but if I'm correct, yellow blocks on the travel map (white ones meaning normal hamlets) indicate shops.

As for figuring out what these places look like on the map, just look for certain oddities in areas that would otherwise all be the same tiles.

If your stopping at these sites but not finding hamlets, be sure to scout around all available land, and if you still have no luck, pop back into the travel map and pick another set of hamlets. You'll find some eventually.

I'm not familiar with your graphics set, so I may be only confusing you. It may be a good idea to switch off your set until you understand the symbols in ASCII, find a shop, save, and turn it back on.

Clearly, this represents six side-by-side wheelbarrows, as indicated by the right half of the icon.  The left half indicates they are carrying babies with hats in these wheelbarrows.

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.
