I built a fort in an area with lots of hippos.  Just recently, a hippo ran into my fortress with 80 strong dwarves into their meeting area.  However, none of the animals, guards, or active military viewed it as hostile.  The hippo would single out a dwarf or pet and proceed to maul it to death while everyone (including the dogs and cats and such) continued to hang out.

No one was even interrupted by the hippo.  They just went about their business.

I am having trouble reproducing it.  A dwarf went outside and attracted the attention of the hippo, and the dwarf ignored it and was killed.  This happened to another dwarf before I realized what was going on, so I sent everyone inside.  When I did this, the hippo had already locked on another target and followed him into the meeting area.
